SAL is a self-directed learning platform. It is imperative that each member strives towards excellence e.g. in preparing and delivering high-quality speeches, and not merely doing the bare minimum to obtain awards/certificates. The health of the local club and the benefits that members derive from the club depend heavily on Excellence as a core value.

All clubs are self-managing. This means that members have to be willing to take up leadership roles in managing the club, conducting regular meetings or organizing other events. As all these roles are voluntary, members must view Responsibility as a core value and take ownership of the club so that everyone can have the best learning experience.

SAL was established with a strong conviction that public speaking and leadership skills are “basic humans rights”. The dissemination of these skills should not be monopolized or heavily commercialized by any party or organization. Members must be fearless in promoting SAL as a viable alternative with the conviction that this is about Justice and not just public speaking.
